Changing
of the Guard: C I Host Will Drop Former Security Partner,
Invests in 3Com Solution
[April 1, 2004]
FORT WORTH, Texas, Apr 1, 2004 /PRNewswire
via COMTEX/ -- C I Host, a global leader in Web hosting,
Internet infrastructure and software development, today
announced a substantial investment in its future, restructuring
security solutions.
C I Host purchased and began installing
3Com(R) Firewall Server PCI Cards for every server.
The total cost for this forward-thinking security measure
is "in the tens of thousands of dollars."
"The majority of our business is
not Windows-based. But, I won't jeopardize any percentage
of our customers -- great or small -- with a security
breach," said Christopher Faulkner, CEO of C I
Host.
Faulkner was vocal, criticizing the
previous security solution which the Witty worm fed
upon. An undisclosed number of Windows-based servers
were struck on March 20 by the Witty worm computer virus.
"C I Host and its customers were
left vulnerable, because we were pro- active in installing
a widely used, highly respected firewall," he said.
"That doesn't make sense, and we will never be
set up again."
The 3Com cards combine firewall hardware
and management software to deliver superior protection.
The critical advantage of our firewall card over software-only
products is tamper resistance. Built into each firewall
card is an onboard RISC processor that enforces security
transparently to end users, local applications, and
operating systems. This embedded firewall hardware is
highly resistant to impervious Internet attacks, end
user actions, or malicious code.
All servers have been checked for Internet
connectivity, e-mail, Cold Fusion, Front Page, SSL,
ServerObjects.com, scripts, ASPQmail and SA Files. A
few single-customer problems remain in addition to normal,
daily technical support issues.
