C
I Host, Global Leader To Open New York/New Jersey Data
Center Planned Private, Direct Fiber Connection To London
[December 14, 2004]
FORT
WORTH (December 16, 2004) - C I Host, a leading Web
host and Internet solutions provider, will open an East
Coast data center 9 minutes from Manhattan early in
2005.
The
Newark data center will be the fifth wholly-owned center
that C I Host has developed over the past seven years,
following those in Bedford, Los Angeles, Chicago and
San Jose, Calif.
"The
expansion into New York and New Jersey will help accommodate
the needs of our growing colocation customer base and
expand our portfolio of geographic-specific services,"
said Christopher Faulkner, CEO of C I Host. "We
will be able to offer services to the SMB market usually
only available to larger companies, and at prices they
can afford."
The
New York/New Jersey data facility will also have a direct,
private fiber connection to the planned London facility,
thus enabling private data transfer between the two
facilities.
"For
top speed, reliability and security, the data that flows
between our East Coast and London centers will pass
on a private C I Host network, not on the public Internet,"
Faulkner said.
Geographic-specific
services that will become more available on the East
Coast include disaster recovery solutions, data backup
services, geographic load balancing, data warehousing
and redundancy.
Due
to C I Host's aggressive North American expansion, small-
and medium-sized businesses will benefit from having
greater access to geographic content distribution and
load balancing, multiple redundant locations and other
enterprise level services.
"Our
model is to introduce enterprise services to SMB owners
and give them access to service levels, service portfolios
and features they never thought possible," Faulkner
said. "Normally these services are reserved for
customers paying much higher rates for hosting. With
C I Host, an SMB customer can have servers in Newark,
Dallas, Los Angeles, San Jose and Chicago, or any combination
of those five cities, for less than $1,000 a month."
Housing
equipment and serving data at different locations around
the globe is important for companies who have customers
in several locations. The closer the server is to the
customer, the more quickly the web page will load and
the more likely the customer will stay on line - an
important consideration in eCommerce.
The
10,000 square-foot facility is wholly owned and operated
by C I Host and built to C I Host's stringent specifications.
All
C I Host's centers are protected by sophisticated physical
and cyber-security systems. The Newark center will be
staffed 24/7 with trained system administrators to ensure
that customers' web sites and servers stay active and
reliable.
In
addition, the Newark Data Center will be protected from
assaults from natural causes or hackers by the highest
possible security measures, including instant water
detection and intrusion sensors, CCTV(closed circuit
TV) with 30-day DVR recording, infrared and biometric
hand scanners and pre-action sprinkler systems.
The
facility's physical security is augmented by its internal
location, with no walls bordering a building exterior.
Excellent physical security is enforced with 24/7/365
on-site personnel, a security guard at every entrance,
advanced instant locking and motion detection.
The
center is located within a controlled environment with
multiple Liebert air systems with N+1 temperature, humidity
and air-quality regulation. Two megawatts of power from
multiple power grids supply electricity from diverse
locations to a private substation on site, which is
backed up and conditioned by UPS systems with auto-start
diesel generators.
The
business climate in New York and New Jersey is among
the most vibrant in the nation. A recent report by the
Russell Sage Foundation, three years after 9/11, pointed
to the "remarkable resilience" of the area's
economy. In particular, the report found that most businesses
affected by the attack on the World Trade Center relocated
in either Manhattan or New Jersey.
"We
will be honored to provide our services to the New York
and New Jersey market," Faulkner said. "This
is an area of great pride and tremendous opportunity.
Our ability to give small and medium sized businesses
- as well as global conglomerates - the cutting edge
tools they need to succeed, makes C I Host a perfect
fit with the dynamism of the New York-New Jersey area."
C
I Host has consistently expanded over the past several
years. Built on a solid financial foundation with no
bank loans or venture capital, it has been able to grow
and prosper even as competitors went bankrupt or scaled
back their operations.
