Filnet's Web Development Wins 2x [June 13, 2005]
Websites Designed and Developed by IT Firm Honored by Association of Educational Publishers
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jun 13, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Today Filnet, a Washington, DC area information technology firm, announced that Happenin' Habitats has won the "Distinguished Achievement Award for Best Science Website" from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP). The site, at http://happeninhabitats.pwnet.org, was designed and developed by Filnet, the National Wildlife Federation, and Prince William Network (PWNet) (the distance learning arm of Prince William County Public Schools) and sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation.
The "Distinguished Achievement Award for Best Science Website" goes to an innovative site specifically designed to teach science. Happenin' Habitats is an online resource for educators and students that enables teachers to create Schoolyard Habitats(R) and use school property as outdoor laboratories.
Filnet also announced that the PWNet Teen Smart Driver website at http://www.teensmartdriver.org was a "Web/Marketing" finalist for the AEP Beacon Awards, which honors excellence in marketing media created specifically for the multibillion dollar education industry.
"We are extremely privileged to have two websites that we designed and developed to be recognized by the Association of Educational Publishers," said Chris J. Baltazar, CEO/President, Filnet, Inc. "While it is great to be honored for your design and business achievements, these awards are especially heart-felt because both sites were recognized for worthy causes--educating students about the wonders of science and saving the lives of hundred of thousands of teens through the promotion of responsible driving and behavior among young people."
Educators everywhere use the Happenin' Habitats website to develop Schoolyard Habitats(R). Teachers can access lesson plans, teaching tips, and plant and wildlife activities that engage students. The site also has a live webcast available to both students and teachers.
Filnet and the Teen Smart Driver Campaign are no strangers to accolades. Last year the International Association of Business Communicators awarded Filnet, Inc. a Silver Inkwell for the web component of the Teen Smart Driver campaign.
