The
Planet Internet Services Teams With Red Hat to Deliver
Hosted Enterprise Linux Solution [16th December
2003]
Deal
expected to fuel additional growth for The Planet and
expand global adoption of Red Hat Enterprise Linux
DALLAS,
December 16, 2003— The Planet Internet Services,
Inc., a Dallas-based global provider of managed hosting
and value-added data center services, has signed a reseller
agreement with Red Hat, Inc. (Nasdaq:RHAT), the world's
leading provider of open source solutions to the enterprise,
to deliver Red Hat Enterprise Linux in a hosted environment.
According to The Planet chief operating
officer Lance Crosby, the company expects to deploy
about 12,000 Linux-based servers for its customer base
in the first year of the agreement.
Crosby said that the Linux Enterprise
offering should drive additional revenue growth for
the company, which was recently identified as the fastest
growing hosting firm in the industry in a report by
Netcraft, an Internet research and data analysis firm
based in Bath, England. The report was based on percentage
growth in active sites among large hosting providers
between April and October of 2003. According to Crosby,
about 60 percent of the company's installed base already
uses some version of Red Hat consumer products, making
the decision to migrate to Linux Enterprise a logical
selection.
"We expect to see immediate demand
for Red Hat Enterprise Linux," Crosby said. "It
will provide our customers additional security features,
support and third-party hardware and software certifications,
and allows us to continue to deliver the most cost-effective
managed hosting solution in the industry, from entry-level
to the enterprise."
"The Planet's hosting environment
offers enterprise customers an additional global channel
to obtain Red Hat Enterprise Linux," said Alex
Pinchev, executive vice president of worldwide sales
at Red Hat. "We look forward to working with The
Planet to broaden the expansion of Linux in the enterprise."
Red Hat Enterprise Linux is available
in three versions - WS, ES and AS - that span the range
of desktop/client, small to mid-range servers and high-end
mission-critical computing applications. It is designed
for cost-effective, distributed applications and provides
a consistent, reliable environment for users and system
administrators.
