C
I Host Sponsors Top-Seeded Clan In Cyberathlete Professional
League To
Trigger Interest In December Launch Of GameVault Gaming
Network [22nd December 2003]
"say Wat?"
BEDFORD,
TX (December 22, 2003) - "More and more people
want to 'bust a cap' in somebody's head," said
Christopher Faulkner, the often outspoken CEO of C I
Host. "What I mean is, the popularity and huge
business growth of on-line gaming probably is relative
to stress and the resulting need for escapism .Ooh,
and because it is really fun and habit-forming."
Recognizing
the sector's profitability, C I Host, a global leader
in Web hosting, Internet infrastructure and software
development, is sponsoring a team or "clan"
competing in The Cyberathlete Professional League Pentium®
4 Processor Winter 2003 Championship. The competition
takes place at the Dallas Hyatt Regency hotel, this
week through Saturday.
C
I Host will unveil GameVault, a full-scale gaming network
by the end of December and predicts the CPL team sponsorship
will trigger interest in the emminent launch.
C
I Host's sponsored team, "Clan Wat?," is top-seeded
in the Halo competition, therefore drawing a bye in
round one. Clan Wat? consists of eight players: NauCe,
Do-X, Rage, Kron, GRYP, Stickgod, Carnage and FireBlade.
Halo, played on-line with optimum speed Internet connections
or on LANs for head-to-head matchups, is a first-person
shooter/sci-fi action game. Capture the Flag (CTF) is
the most popular mode to play.
CounterStrike,
also hugely successful at the competition, is a team-oriented
game derived from the HalfLife game. Counter-Strike
provides the player with an experience that a trained
counter-terrorist unit experiences.
"Thirty-two
teams compete in the winter CPL Halo Tournament, vying
for a $30,000-prize. Clan Wat? also has a CounterStrike
and Call of Duty division. They have played in 25 tournaments
in the last four years. The team is compiled from the
Chicagoland area and East Coast, featuring students
and various "techie" professionals who have
played together for five years"
"C
I Host wants to be increasingly branded in the minds
of the computer generation. Having a team at CPL is
like going to ground zero and joining ranks with the
opinion leaders of a movement. . Yet another no-brainer
for our trademark guerilla marketing," Faulkner
quipped.
Faulkner's
C I Host has received media attention around the world
for it's outlandish branding stunt, the actual tattooing
of the company logo on the head of "The Human Billboard."
