Hostopia - Hostopia Reduces Price on Email Anti-Virus [11th June 2003]

Symantec-powered service #1 best seller for hosting companies

Ft. Lauderdale, USA – Hostopia Inc. announced a reduction in cost for its Email Anti-Virus service, enabling its private label partners to retail the service at a new suggested list price of $4.99 per month for up to ten email boxes. The popular service, hosted by Symantec for Hostopia identifies the latest virus definitions for inbound and outbound email.

“Even at our previous, higher pricing, our hosting partners were typically able to capture 3-5% of their hosting base for this billable service. We fully expect the aggressive new price to drive correspondingly higher sales numbers,” says Paul Engels, vice president, marketing for Hostopia.

Hostopia concurrently launched an incentive program to its base of over 250 private label hosting service partners: free use of email anti-virus for all new users between June 11 and August 30, 2003. “For three months, our partners can sell this service for $4.99 per hosted domain per month and pocket 100% of the revenue at pure margin. The incentive is to launch the service and promote it,” comments Engels.

Email Anti-Virus is a privately labeled service available to Hostopia’s growing base of 250 distribution partners. As a value added service, it bundles with hosting plans and can protect ten email users from the costly damage from email-borne viruses, worms, Trojan horses and the like. Suggested retail price for the service is $4.99 per month with additional email boxes available at nominal cost. Hostopia’s partners typically earn from 50% to 65% gross margin on the popular service.

Research from ICSA Labs finds that over 83 per cent of all viruses originate from business email. Hostopia partners’ end users find Email Anti-Virus to be an essential complement to desktop virus protection. A typical business web site user is Richard Miles, CEO of ReLaunch, a Berkeley-based marketing agency.

He reports, “I signed up for email anti-virus from my hosting provider, BlueGenesis.com and in the first ten minutes it found and cleaned four viruses on incoming email. I was already using a network anti-virus program that was up to date so I could see that email wasn’t protected. For my eight employees, $4.99 a month is a no-brainer. Losing one client file to an email virus would be a disaster for my company.”
